    Assange had no charges against him by any institution, but was still imprisoned in solitary confinement (an established form of torture). If you object to Moore bailing Assange out, you object to someone spending money to end the torture of someone…

    no that means he wasn’t PROVEN to be guilty. people can get rid of evidence, especially in a rape case and ESPECIALLY if the accused is someone who’s done something good at another time in his life, like everybody loving him now for leaking documents. 

    I was going to make a comment about the difference between a bail hearing and an actual trial but looking at the threads this post generated i’m not sure if there’d be much point, this guy’s copped a lot of (imo, justified) back and forth over legal and other ins and outs and i’m not really feeling like piling on.

    However i really can’t help but comment on the false dichotomy in the OP. I mean, hypothetically, if one thought Assange should be kept detained by the English but not in solitary confinement what should one do? Put up money to bail him out or not? Obviously there’s a lot of nuance missing there which seems to be a pretty good metaphor for the lack of nuance in so much of online discussion of these charges.
