In light of the Republican war on women, let’s just remember this happened way back in the 90s. And it was rad.

  5. The Bill of Rights has no exemptions for “really bad people” or terrorists or even non-citizens. It is a key check on government power against any person. That is not a weakness in our legal system; it is the very strength of our legal system. The NDAA attempts to justify abridging the bill of rights on the theory that rights are suspended in a time of war, and the entire Unites States is a battlefield in the War on Terror. This is a very dangerous development indeed.

I’m a fan of the First Lady so I thought I should try and find a way to make her look cool in this photo.

What it was like to be a solid rocket booster on the Space Shuttle

    WHOA.

This new video from NASA shows you exactly what it would be like if you were strapped to one of the shuttle’s solid rocket boosters and given an HD video camera to hold. It’s a wild ride.

As these cannons of chemical fire thrust the shuttle through the lower atmosphere, you can see the ground zoom away, the sky begin to fade into the darkness of space, and even the exact point where the shuttle breaks the sound barrier on its way to orbit (~1:10!).

There’s a speedometer in the upper right and some amazing sound remastered by Skywalker Studios. This is the best trip you’ll take all Thursday (or really any day).

It’s funny because, working in the space industry, some of the beauty to this video has been stripped. I can’t help but wonder what kind of qualification program you would have to subject that little camera to that would allow you to strap it on the side of a booster for a manned spacecraft. I wonder what it’s environmental test plan looks like or what kind of bizzarre requirements made it into its technical specification. I automatically start thinking about the costs associated with qualification of the hardware and who got the contract to build this for NASA.

Whatever, it’s a cool video. Hey NASA, keep doing shit like this. Make the public care again.

America: the nation that put men on the moon but fought so long against action on global warming. Get your shit together.

This video is just so much awesome.

I can’t decide what I like most about this video…

    • the fact that the guy in blue gloves is casually dancing while still carrying on his work
    • how every guy who walks through knows that they need to do that move that’s said in the song while still walking.
    • how they all look bewildered as to what the Charlie Brown is.
    • and how into it the guy on the right is. BOOTY.

They are SO CUTE! They may have guns and crew cuts and clunky boots, but they’re still boys on the inside <3

ALWAYS REBLOG. This is one of those videos that cheers me up every time I see it.
